Ford Performance unveils the all-new Mustang Dark Horse R

For Mustang Challenge Racing Series

FORD Performance has introduced the all-new Mustang Dark Horse R, catering to the demands of avid track enthusiasts. This turn-key race car is meticulously crafted for participation in the forthcoming Mustang Challenge spec racing series, exclusively designed for Mustang Dark Horse R and officially sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA).

The Mustang Dark Horse R, propelled by a cutting-edge, fourth-generation 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, stands as the third racing derivative under the Dark Horse umbrella unveiled this summer. It proudly shares the stage with its counterparts, the Mustang GT3 and Mustang GT4.

Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, expressed the significance of the Mustang Dark Horse R in bridging the gap between Dark Horse and Mustang GT3/GT4. “Mustang Dark Horse R offers our passionate customers not just an attainable, factory-built race car, but also a racing series to compete with other Mustang enthusiasts,” he emphasized.

Mustang Dark Horse R Ready for the track

As the Ford Mustang Dark Horse cements its status as the most track-capable 5.0-liter V8 street-legal Mustang, the Dark Horse R emerges as a natural extension of the prowess inherent in every Dark Horse model.

While tailored exclusively for track use, the Dark Horse R shares several components with its road-going counterpart. These include a body sourced from the Flat Rock Assembly Plant, a potent 500+ horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine, Tremec 3160 manual transmission, Torsen limited-slip differential with a 3.73 final drive ratio, aero enhancements, and Brembo rear brake calipers/rotors. The vehicle is further upgraded with an extensive array of track-focused equipment, emphasizing its dedication to delivering an unparalleled racing experience.
