La Salle can still catch last semis bus

NIEL VICTOR MASOY

DE La Salle University is hoping for two things to happen today, November 30, in the final playing date of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

First, the Green Archers need to beat the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers in the first game at 2 p.m.

And second, they pray that Adamson University bows to heavy favorite Ateneo de Manila University in the second game at 4 p.m.

Only in this scenario that La Salle can forge a rubber match for the last seat in the Final Four.

One thing going for the Green Archers in today’s game is that the hapless Growling Tigers have only won once in 13 games this season.

However, if the Soaring Falcons score a victory over the Blue Eagles today, then, it’s goodbye for La Salle.

However, according to Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin, they are not going to give the game to Adamson on a silver platter.

“Play to win,” Baldwin said when asked how are they going to approach their game against the Soaring Falcons.

The Green Archers are currently fifth in the standings with a 6-7 win-loss card and the Soaring Falcons are at fourth place with a 7-6 slate.

University of the Philippines and Ateneo, meanwhile, will have the twice-to-beat edge against their rivals in the semifinal round.
