Flying Titans eye 7th straight win

BY NIEL VICTOR C. MASOY

CHOCO Mucho guns for its seventh straight win as it faces F2 Logistics in the 2023 PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena today.

The streaking Flying Titans battle the skidding Cargo Movers at 6 p.m., their match serving as the main event of a triple-header.

Petro Gazz and Farm Fresh raise the curtains with a collision at 2 p.m. followed by the contest between Cignal and Chery Tiggo at 4 p.m.

After a conference-opening loss to sister team Creamline, Choco Mucho has turned its campaign sweet, having won six straight games with the latest of the streak being an 18-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-16 win over Petro Gazz last Thursday.

Flying Titans head coach Dante Alinsunurin stressed the importance of winning games especially in the homestretch of the elimination round as his second seed team tries to bolster its bid for a semifinal appearance.

“Every game is important, especially now at the latter part of the elimination round. It’s important for us to get some confidence, that’s why I’m thankful for this win [over Petro Gazz],” said Alinsunurin.

“We’re going to prepare for F2 as we’re about to face the top teams in the standings,” added Alinsunurin, whose Choco Mucho will still have to face fellow semis-contending teams in PLDT and Chery Tiggo.

Meanwhile, the Cargo Movers are practically seeking survival, needing to win their last three games, as much as possible each in straight sets, to give themselves a shot of making the semifinals.

Another loss will put F2’s semifinal bid in more peril.

Despite a career-best 30 points from Jolina de la Cruz, F2 yielded to Cignal, 23-25, 25-22, 24-26, 24-26, and fell to its second straight loss last Thursday to drop to 4-4, tied with Petro Gazz and Akari in fifth place.

“We’re still going to show up. That’s what we need to do despite our losing streak. We need to show up and play because this is a professional league and we need to be professional as well,” said de la Cruz.
