Comedians, actors, celebrities star in unique Prime Video series

EVER heard of an improv show and a reality series rolled into one? Probably not. But, Prime Video is making it an actual option with the premiere of “Comedy Island Philippines” today.

Directed by Randolph Longjas and produced by Tanya Yuson of BASE Entertainment, Comedy Island Philippines brings together a bag of unlikely cast in a first-of-its-kind Filipino original series.

Comedy Island Philippines is a hybrid reality series that blends comedy and adventure, scripted and unscripted formats, and planned and improvisational scenes. Some parts of the show are scripted, while other parts are purely up to the cast’s creativity and humor, taking viewers on a unique and fun viewing experience.

It’s no surprise to see comedy stalwarts Rufa Mae Quinto, Jerald Napoles, Cai Cortez and Awra Briguela in the series but, having dramatic actors Carlo Aquino and Andrea Brillantes, viral sensation Justine Luzares and host Drew Arellano in the mix will surely pique the audience’s curiosity.

In each episode, players take on different challenges that put their comedic and improv skills to the test. But there’s only one way to survive: make the people of the island laugh.

As the cast pulls out all stops to overcome each challenge with wit and determination (unscripted, of course), Comedy Island Philippines sets the stage for a unique entertainment that appeals not only to Filipinos but also to global audiences.

“I’ve done comedy in my previous series, but it’s my first time to do this kind of format where I had to improvise some parts of the script. It was fun and I really feel like this is the launching of my comedy career, ”Brillantes excitedly shared at the show’s media conference.

“Thank you for giving me this opportunity and finding a different version of myself that I can share. Hopefully the audiences can see this in the show,” Arellano also shared.

As they strive to survive in the mysterious Tawa-Tawa Island by playing in the island’s exhilarating so-called centennial games, viewers will be treated to the cast’s funny antics, hilarious bloopers, and unpredictable experiences.

“If you want entertainment where you can just laugh, not overthink the plot, and enjoy the show, watch Comedy Island Philippines. It will give you those things and more,” director Longjas finally promised.

The series is now available in the Philippines and in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The six-part series will run for until September 7 with three episodes streaming each week.
