DoST SciNet-Phil members meet to plan ways forward
MEMBERS of the Department of Science and Technology (DoST)’s Science and Technology Information Network of the Philippines (SciNet-Phil) gathered for the twoday DoST SciNet-Phil’s general assembly and strategic planning workshop at the City Garden Suites in Manila last month.
The DoST SciNet-Phil was a network of all the libraries and information centers under the DoST, including the regional offices and the provincial science and technology centers.
Created through the DoST Administrative Order No. 29, series of 1995, it aimed to organize and coordinate the information sourcing and sharing in the DoST system. Its general objective was to promote and improve the flow and use of science and technology information through resource sharing and networking.
In her opening remarks, DoST Undersecretary for Scientific and Technical Services Maridon Sahagun highlighted the need for libraries to adapt in the rapidly changing and dynamic digital landscape.
Sahagun said: “Libraries have long been the cornerstone of knowledge, learning and community engagement. However, in this rapidly evolving digital age, libraries must adapt and innovate to remain relevant and continue to serve as indispensable resources for our patrons. By harnessing our collective energy and expertise, we can ensure that our library remains a vibrant hub of knowledge and a catalyst for positive change.”
Mary Margaret Que and Denver Bingski Daradar from ExeQ Consulting Services were the workshop facilitators. The outputs were also presented on the workshop’s last day.
