Philippine cinema shines anew at The 6th Eddys
BY CHRISTINA ALPAD
IT was another night of glam, camaraderie and most of all, Filipino artistry as The Entertainment Editors Choice Awards — or simply The Eddys — returned for its 6th edition on Sunday night at the Aliw Theater.
As in previous editions, The Eddys one again honored both creatives in front of and behind the camera as well as outstanding individuals and productions who’ve worked on titles released in the past year.
“Blue Room” and “Family Matters” emerged as the top winners of the evening, after both winning the coveted Best Film award.
Another big award for the night, Best Director, went to Nuel Crisostomo Naval for his masterful direction of “Family Matters.”
The acting awards for leads went to the next generation of actors — Max Eigenmann and Janine Gutierrez as the Best Actress awardees “12 Weeks” and “Bakit ‘Di Mo Sabihin?” respectively; Elijah Canlas as Best Actor for “Blue Room.”
The supporting categories, meanwhile, went to veteran actors Nikki Valdez and Mon Confiado (Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor) for “Family Matters” and “Nanahimik ang Gabi,” respectively.
The Eddys also paid tribute to individuals who have made significant contributions to Philippine cinema. Aga Muhlach, Niño Muhlach, and Snooky Serna were honored with the Movie Icon award for their enduring impact on the industry.
Meanwhile, Herbert Bautista, Coco Martin, and Piolo Pascual were recognized with the Isah V. Red Award for their unwavering support and inspiration to fellow Filipinos.
Veteran entertainment columnist, former TV host, and content creator Aster Amoyo received the Joe Quirino Award, while renowned writer and advocate of Philippine cinema Ed de Leon was honored with the Manny Pichel Award.
Viva Films was named Producer of the Year and MavX Productions as the Rising Producer of the Year.
The awards night was directed by Eric Quizon and hosted by Piolo Pascual and Iza Calzado.
Adding glitter to the event were performances by Pops Fernandez, Darren Espanto, Erik Santos and P-pop group Calista.
Presented by The Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) in partnership with Airtime Marketing Philippines as producer, The 6th Eddys will have a delayed telecast on December 2 on A2Z.
